The Grant County Democratic Party continues to explore issues important in the 2006 election cycle at its monthly “issues lunch” on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, 12 noon at the Red Barn Restaurant in Silver City. WNMU Professor of Economics Dr. George Muncrief will provide an analysis of some economic issues and trends at work leading up to the November 7 election.
Recapping current US policy in the macro-economic areas of inflation, unemployment, and economic growth, Dr. Muncrief will link policy to issues such as the national debt, trade deficit, free trade, and worker productivity. His presentation will leave a lot of room for questions and comments by attendees.
“We are very pleased to have the benefit of George Muncrief’s knowledge at this crucial time in the election cycle,” Democratic Party Chairman D. Matthew Runnels said. “People are weighing the impact, for example, of the deficit on their individual pocketbooks as they head to the voting booth. We hope this discussion will help answer some of the average voter’s questions on the state of the economy.”
Doors will open at 11:30 with a buffet lunch available for $8. The presentation will begin at approximately 12:10, ending at 12:55.
The next “Democratic Issues Lunch” meeting is scheduled for October 18, when WNMU Political Science Professor Magdaleno Manzanares takes a break from his sabbatical to discuss the political landscape just before the election. For more information, call 388-9557.
