4th of July

For the first time since 2005, I won’t be watching the parade in downtown Silver City, and I won’t be waiting to hear sirens so I can run out in search of a photograph for the newspaper, and I won’t be going to the ice-cream social at the Silver City museum. I’ll miss all the frivolity at Gough Park, the good food and the cold drinks and the amazingly huge crowds.
And if you’re reading this daddio, I miss ya.
Have a Happy 4th of July everybody!

It was a pretty good parade this year; over 60 vehicles. One note: the local peace coalition was only able to muster up 6 people to march in the parade. Too bad– apparently some folks contacted the Chamber of Commerce saying that if the peaceniks were allowed in, they would not participate; the Chamber allegedly told them that that the parade is an inclusive event celebrating our freedoms… including free speech.
