So, for he record: if you do a lot of shopping on Amazon.com (as my mother, sister and I do) then Amazon Prime shipping is worth it. After spending several days trying to find a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in Baltimore (with my mom and sister searching here in D.C.) I broke down and overnighted two copies to myself (of course, I had to get one for Meri). Cost for shipping: $6.
I had the book at 3 p.m. yesterday, and finished at 2 a.m. (with a generous break for dinner with my family). Not the fastest read, but definitely rewarding. I don’t know what else to say about the book — it simply felt like Rowling was doing an immense service to me by writing the series.
Also, even today (five days after its release) the book is everywhere. I walked around the Capitol this afternoon (pictures to come tomorrow) and saw many people reading it on park benches and while sitting under trees. On the Metro ride home I saw 3 people reading it within a 6-foot radius.
And, looks like the folk back home are reading it as well (go Julia), or preparing to read it (keep it up Ken, you’re almost there — and Order of the Phoenix rocks).
OK, off to sleep (I stayed up too late last night for some reason). More tomorrow!

Glad everything is going well for you. I had read the first Potter a couple of years ago, and never continued with the series (I know, can you imagine!). But this whole craze over the new book has motivated me to continue reading. I’m almost done with C of S. Don’t know why I stopped!

Ok, you have convinced me. I am going to start reading the series (Yes, I have never read one or have seen any of the movies!)… as soon as I at least finish the 8 or so books on my nightstand.
