Well, I didn’t have any Internet while on my travels, and I’m writing from a Starbucks in Baltimore just to get man update online. Here’s some photos from the move and from our first weekend in Baltimore. Above, you’ll see Meredith in Baltimore Harbor, where we had gone in search of the new Harry Potter book. Unfortunately, its sold out everywhere (while I imagine the Wal-Mart back in Silver City has about 3,000 extra copies).
At left, Meredith is chilling inside the Berlin Wall. Yeah, I know, that’s what I said. Seriously, Winston Churchill gave his famous “Iron Curtain” speech at Westminster College, which is in Fulton Missouri. “Hey, isn’t Meredith from Missouri?” you ask. Ding ding ding! Tell them what they won Chuck!
Again, seriously — they brought over a London church (The Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury) and established the Winston Churchill Memorial and Library there. Meredith’s mom took us for a visit mid way through our cross-country journey.
More photos below: you’ll have to click on em for descriptions and for larger versions — I’m not writing it all twice. Time to go, for now. I hope to have more later this week. I’m heading down to D.C. tomorrow!

I don’t think I knew before now that you were headed to the Baltimore/Washington area. I lived in Balto. from 1955 to 1999 (most of it in the Charles Village neighborhood near Johns Hopkins University) and it was a hoot to see your photo dump of the area. Artscape is a major annual gathering and street-food gorging opportunity and I remember it well. As for the Senator theater, it has been on the verge of bankruptcy and been rescued from the brink more times than I can count.
Enjoy Bawlamer, hon (which is what the natives, or at least the waitresses, will call you)!

Avelino,
Hey gone a week and i miss you already. It’s pretty quiet here without you, but i am sure we will adapt. Glad to hear that you made it safely. Keep in touch, and take care of yourself.
I might call you every Friday night, just for kicks to tell you i am at the office drinking mountain dew and eating a snickers cruncher.

Have you had a crab cake sandwich yet?

Thanks for all the well wishes and advice, everybody! Danny, don’t call, it’s two hours later here, remember!
Laura, no, but I have had a crab cake quesadila.
Mitch — I guess I’ll have to do what I can to help keep the Senator alive.
