Bear and Loon

Yesterday, two hikers strolled into the Daily Press to tell us about their journey. Jeremy Keeble is hiking across the country to raise money for the American Diabetes Association. He stopped in Silver City today, having previously visited Carlsbad, Albuquerque, Truth or Consequences and Las Cruces.

The kicker is, he started in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, which is where Meredith attended school.

So, after the interview, she took Jeremy — known as “Bear” on the trails — and his friend Loon out for dinner. They shared tales of their adventures hiking the Triple Crown: the Appalachian, Continental Divide and Pacific Crest trails.

One of the wonderful things about this job is those occasions when you meet truly inspiring individuals. Yesterday was one such occasion. Loon and Bear have a remarkable outlook on life, which I couldn’t hope to convey here. I slept well last night, having spent the evening drinking beer and eating pizza with such people.

You can read more about Jeremy’s journey in the Silver City Daily Press.

Anyhoo, here’s Bear and Meri, the Missourians:
