Sen. Dede Feldman has the goods over at her blog:
At a time of widespread public disgust with secrecy and corruption in government, the New Mexico Senate in the past two days has turned down two key ethics and campaign reform measures that I sponsored…
Disaster number two was the rejection of a bill yesterday that tightened campaign reporting requirements, closed a loophole that allowed independent expenditures (often from out of state) to spend freely without anyone knowing how much and for what purpose. The bill also sought to curb the practice of huge cash contributions like the sort we all saw on videotape in the Robert Vigil Treasurer case.
So, we know the NM Senate is all about business as usual. Disgusting.

and the House passed the ‘paper ballot’ bill H430 but stripped the requirement that the paper ballot system be in place by the next elections. Progs know that this next election may be there best chance to regain some crucial seats. But without paper ballots, the election is not trustworthy in NM yet.
A conference committee will try to iron out the differences in the senate and house versions. If your elected reps are on the conference committee, call and let them know you want a system that can be trusted to be in place before anymore elections take place.
